Used to stabilize dentition, Hawley retainers are the most commonly fabricated appliance in the orthodontic laboratory. The custom made retainer is designed to hold the teeth in their final position after fixed orthodontic brackets and archwires have been removed. A Hawley retainer is made by having impressions taken by a dentist and will have a labial bow (a thin wire holding the front teeth in position). It has two wire adams clasps on the posterior teeth. An acrylic baseplate that sits in the palate holds the wire and teeth in position. We make Hawleys fit into a contemporary practice with our wide range of colors and designs. Let patients make the choice and enhance compliance. Consider taking the impression while the fixed appliances are still present, eliminating a delay in bracket removal and Hawley seating.
